"Let's Overcome the Pain of COVID-19 Together," Delivered to Daegu Branch of the Korean Red Cross
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 4th that the Yeosu Fish Market Merchants Association (President Kim Sangmin) donated 5 million won to the Daegu Metropolitan City branch of the Korean Red Cross on the 3rd to support the citizens of Daegu who are struggling due to the spread of COVID-19.
President Kim Sangmin of the Merchants Association stated, "When the merchants of Yeosu Fish Market suffered great distress due to a fire in 2017, thanks to the generous support and donations sent from all over the country, we were able to quickly recover and resume business, and we will never forget their kind hearts," adding, "We have entrusted 5 million won, collected little by little by the merchants, to share the pain with the citizens of Daegu who are suffering from the spread of COVID-19."
According to Yeosu City, when the Daegu subway accident occurred in 2003, Jeollanam-do raised 406.21 million won (11 million won from Yeosu city officials) and delivered it to Daegu City. Also, when the Daegu Seomun Market fire occurred in 2016, Jeollanam-do donated 10 million won, maintaining a connection.
During the 2017 Yeosu Fish Market fire, Daegu City also sent 30 million won to Yeosu City to aid in recovery efforts.
President Kim Sangmin said, "Although our merchants are also facing difficulties due to decreased sales, if we unite in times like these, we can overcome the pain together," and added, "Traditional market merchants should take the lead in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and overcoming difficulties."
