[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] Romanson, the maker of the "President's watch" during the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye administrations, stated on the 3rd that the "Park Geun-hye watch" worn by Lee Man-hee, the chairman of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, at a press conference is "not a watch we supplied."
Romanson explained that the dial of the president's watch, which indicates the minute hand in 5-minute increments, was made with dots and supplied to the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye administrations. However, the dial of Chairman Lee's watch is designed with lines.
Romanson also stated that they have never produced the gold-plated product worn by Chairman Lee.
Chairman Lee wore the "Park Geun-hye watch" during a press conference on the 2nd in front of the "Palace of Peace" in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province, addressing the mass COVID-19 infections among Shincheonji followers, sparking controversy over its authenticity. Currently, products of the same color as the watch worn by Chairman Lee are being traded on Junggonara.
Meanwhile, Shincheonji responded to the controversy by saying, "The Park Geun-hye watch was given by an elder five years ago, but we don't know if it's real or fake," and added, "There is also a watch received during the time of National Assembly Speaker Chung Sye-kyun."
In response, Speaker Chung Sye-kyun denied on his SNS, stating, "I have never met Mr. Lee nor provided watches to Shincheonji."
