[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Shinsegae Food announced on the 4th that it is launching two new products of the convenient side dish meal kit "Olban Hanjan Halle" for home drinking enthusiasts (people who enjoy drinking at home) in collaboration with GS Retail.
Shinsegae Food focused on convenience store chains promoting alcoholic beverages such as soju, beer, and wine, which are not available for purchase online, as key products to attract customers, while simultaneously strengthening the side dishes that can be paired with them. In particular, as single-person households increase and concerns about the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have grown recently, the preference for small-pack, easy-to-cook side dish meals that can be enjoyed at home has been rising among consumers.
The two new products are "Olban Hanjan Halle Gambas" and "Bulnan Maneul Jokbal". "Olban Hanjan Halle Gambas" is a convenient meal version of the Spanish representative dish gambas, featuring plump shrimp with a chewy texture combined with the deep flavors of garlic and olive oil, making it perfect as a wine side dish. Depending on preference, adding bread or noodles to the sauce makes it a hearty and elegant meal.
"Olban Hanjan Halle Bulnan Maneul Jokbal" is a beer side dish characterized by boneless jokbal (pig's trotters) simmered in a secret broth containing angelica and licorice, resulting in a clean and mild taste without any unpleasant odor. It also comes with a spicy sauce made from a chef's recipe and fried garlic slices, allowing for a cleaner spicy flavor.
Both products can be prepared by microwaving the container as is for 1 minute 40 seconds to 2 minutes 30 seconds. They will be available nationwide at GS25 convenience stores starting from the 5th, priced at 6,900 won.
