[Asia Economy Reporter Shinwon Yoon] Ballerino Na Daehan, who appeared on Mnet's 'Somebody,' is embroiled in controversy after it was revealed that he traveled to Japan during his self-quarantine period for COVID-19. In response, the National Ballet Company, to which he belongs, announced that it will take strict measures.
Na Daehan entered self-quarantine after performing in the production of 'Swan Lake' held at Daegu Opera House over two days from the 14th to the 15th of last month. More than 130 members and staff, including director Kang Sujin who participated in the performance, were all subject to self-quarantine and were instructed to stay at home from the 24th of last month until the 1st of this month.
However, Na Daehan violated the self-quarantine order and revealed through Instagram that he traveled to Japan with his girlfriend, sparking controversy. Currently, all photos have been deleted, and the Instagram account has been closed.
In response, the National Ballet Company posted an apology on its official website on the 2nd under the name of Artistic Director Kang Sujin. The apology stated, "We sincerely apologize for causing concern to the public due to this unfortunate incident amid a nationally chaotic atmosphere," and "We deeply regret that an act that should not have been committed was done."
It continued, "Our National Ballet Company will take strict measures, including disciplinary action against the member in question, following internal procedures," and "We will pay even closer attention to managing our members to prevent such incidents from recurring."
Below is the apology from the National Ballet Company
Hello, this is Kang Sujin, Artistic Director of the National Ballet Company.
First of all, I apologize for causing concern to the public due to this unfortunate incident amid a nationally chaotic atmosphere.
Currently, as COVID-19 is spreading nationwide, it has been confirmed that a member of the National Ballet Company traveled to Japan during their self-quarantine period without authorization.
This is an act that should not have been committed by a member of the National Ballet Company, and as the Artistic Director, I feel deeply sorry. Our National Ballet Company will take strict measures, including disciplinary action against the member in question, following internal procedures.
Furthermore, we will pay even closer attention to managing our members to prevent such incidents from recurring.
