[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The first confirmed case of COVID-19 has been reported in Dobong-gu, Seoul.

Lee Dong-jin, the mayor of Dobong-gu, announced on his Facebook at 3:47 PM on the 2nd, "It is with a heavy heart that I report to the residents that the first confirmed case of COVID-19 has occurred in Dobong-gu."

The first confirmed patient, Mr. A, is a 37-year-old male residing in Chang 2-dong, Dobong-gu, who works in Seongdong-gu. It is presumed that he was infected by his coworker, Mr. B, who was confirmed positive on February 27.

He added, "On the afternoon of February 27, when coworker Mr. B was confirmed positive, Mr. A, who was asymptomatic at the time, visited the Dobong-gu Public Health Center's screening clinic and was tested, receiving a negative result on February 28." However, "After experiencing fever and headache symptoms, two additional tests on March 1 showed positive results, and at around 2:50 PM on the 2nd, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gave the final confirmation. He was transferred to a nationally designated hospital for treatment."

It was confirmed that Mr. A had not gone to work since February 27, the day coworker Mr. B was confirmed positive, and had been self-quarantining at his home in Chang 2-dong with his family.

With this, among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul, only Yongsan-gu and Gangbuk-gu remain as 'clean areas' with no confirmed COVID-19 cases reported yet.
