[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] LG Display announced on the 29th that it has closed some production facilities after a bank employee stationed at its Gumi plant tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
LG Display stated, "It has been confirmed that a bank employee in the welfare building within Complex 1 of the Gumi plant is a COVID-19 positive case," and added, "In cooperation with local governments and health authorities, we are closing certain areas of the plant for three days and conducting thorough disinfection."
They continued, "We have immediately closed the welfare building and are carrying out disinfection," and added, "As a preemptive measure, some production facilities such as the module factory where employees who use the welfare building work will also be closed and disinfected."
The closure and disinfection of the welfare building, module factory, and other areas of the plant are expected to continue until the morning of the 3rd of next month. LG Display informed its employees about the COVID-19 positive case of the bank employee in the welfare building through text messages and the company bulletin board on the night of the 28th and early morning of the 29th. Additionally, employees who may have had contact were instructed to self-quarantine and undergo testing. Regarding this, an LG Display official explained, "Due to the need for meticulous disinfection based on the confirmed case's movement path, disinfection will continue until the morning of the 3rd of next month."
Since January of this year, LG Display has been operating a COVID-19 response task force and has implemented proactive virus spread prevention measures including ▲restraining domestic and international business trips ▲providing masks and hand sanitizers at domestic and overseas plants ▲monitoring entrances with thermal imaging cameras and strengthening plant disinfection ▲distributing a COVID-19 self-diagnosis app to employees.
LG Display stated, "In the event of confirmed cases or other issues within the company, we will communicate response procedures and results quickly and transparently to ensure thorough prevention of virus spread."
