[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] On the 29th, the Vietnamese government temporarily prohibited Korean passenger flights from landing at Hanoi Airport, causing an Asiana Airlines passenger plane to make an emergency return.
The Korean Embassy in Vietnam announced that the Vietnamese government instructed that the Korea-Hanoi route use Van Don Airport in Quang Ninh Province, about 3 hours away from Hanoi, instead of Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi.
It is reported that the Vietnamese authorities notified airlines by phone around 8:30 AM local time that this measure would be implemented from 8:15 AM local time (10:15 AM Korean time).
Accordingly, Asiana Airlines flight OZ729 bound for Hanoi, which departed from Incheon at 10:10 AM Korean time, returned to Incheon Airport 40 minutes after takeoff.
The passenger plane, carrying 40 passengers, was scheduled to arrive in Hanoi at 12:30 PM.
