Travel Advisory Issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs for All Areas in Japan Except Around Fukushima Nuclear Plant

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 29th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a Level 1 (Blue Alert) travel advisory, corresponding to travel caution, for the entire territory of Japan except for the area within a 30km radius of the Fukushima nuclear power plant and the evacuation order areas designated by the Japanese government.

This Blue Alert issuance reflects concerns over the recent trend of increasing COVID-19 infections within Japan, raising the risk of exposure for our citizens. The travel alert system is divided into four levels: Level 1 (Blue Alert) for travel caution, Level 2 (Yellow Alert) for travel restraint, Level 3 (Red Alert) for evacuation recommendation, and Level 4 (Black Alert) for travel prohibition.

According to the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, as of noon on the 27th, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Japan was 210 (with 4 deaths), excluding 705 cases (4 deaths) from the Yokohama cruise ship.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized, "Our citizens residing in Japan should pay close attention to their personal safety, and those planning to travel to the region should exercise caution."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation in Japan and review the necessity of adjusting the travel advisory as needed.
