Focus on Reducing User Burden
Targeting Dual-Income, Single-Parent, and Multi-Child Families
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on the 29th that it will ease the burden on users by expanding the government support rate for childcare service fees in preparation for school reopening delays and other situations.
The expanded support applies to all households using the service due to closures, school suspensions, or school reopening delays from the 2nd to the 27th of next month. The government support expansion applies from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.
The government support rate for the service fee (9,890 KRW) will be temporarily increased from the existing 0-85% to 40-90%. The user burden will be eased by an average of 37.6%. However, to be eligible, the household must experience a childcare gap, such as dual-income families, single-parent families, or families with multiple children. Households where parents can take care of their children are excluded from the support.
Minister of Gender Equality and Family Jeong-ok Lee said, "We will continuously monitor the situation through an emergency communication system with the field, and make ongoing efforts to ensure safe childcare by emphasizing the mandatory wearing of masks by childcare providers and preventing infections in advance."
