[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Park Jae-hyun, the 15th president of Korea Water Resources Corporation, took office on the 28th. His term lasts until February 27, 2023.
Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, President Park delivered his inaugural address to all employees through an online video without a separate inauguration ceremony.
In his inaugural speech, President Park stated, "We will establish a virtuous cycle integrated water management system so that all citizens can enjoy safe and clean water by advancing vulnerable local waterworks and improving water welfare in underserved areas."
He added, "We will promote overseas projects and build an international cooperation system, prepare for inter-Korean cooperation projects through international collaboration, and activate eco-friendly water energy to reduce fine dust. We will also open a smart water management era through the successful establishment of the Busan EDC Smart City."
He emphasized, "The restoration of the natural state of the four major rivers' weirs and estuary dams will be supported and cooperated with the Water Management Committee and the Ministry of Environment to prepare reasonable alternatives for the public based on fair and objective data."
President Park will officially begin his duties starting with a "COVID-19 Company-wide Emergency Inspection Meeting" connected via video conference with department heads nationwide on the 2nd of next month.
Meanwhile, President Park, born in 1966 (aged 53), holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Hydraulic Engineering) from Seoul National University. While serving as a professor at Inje University, he has been recognized as a water resources expert through various water-related activities, including co-chairing the Nakdong River Integrated Water Management Committee.
