[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The United Future Party has called for a suspension of worship services, urging a magnanimous decision regarding some large churches' insistence on holding weekend services.
Hwang Gyu-hwan, deputy spokesperson of the United Future Party, stated in a commentary on the 28th, "We earnestly appeal for the magnanimous decision of the churches in the Republic of Korea, which have taken the lead in overcoming national crises."
Deputy spokesperson Hwang pointed out, "As confirmed cases have occurred in large churches in Seoul, including the churches where cases were confirmed, the Catholic Church has decided to suspend all masses for the first time in history, and the Buddhist community is also canceling Dharma assemblies. However, some large churches have announced that they will proceed with religious events this weekend as planned, raising concerns."
He continued, "Whenever Korea has faced difficulties, churches have gathered the power of faith, and at times have sublimated that power into action to take the lead in overcoming national crises. We hope they will once again demonstrate the sacrifice, dedication, and spirit of serving the people shown during the anti-Japanese movement, the democratization movement, and even earlier during foreign invasions."
