Domestic COVID-19 Cases Rise Above 2,000 After 39 Days (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea surpassed 2,000 on the 28th.

The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of 9 a.m. that day, 256 additional COVID-19 cases were reported compared to 4 p.m. the previous day. This brought the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 2,022. It took 39 days since the first patient was reported on the 20th of last month to exceed 2,000 cases.

Daegu and Gyeongbuk saw a sharp increase of 231 confirmed cases overnight, accounting for about 90% of the new cases. By region, Daegu had the highest number with 182 cases, followed by Gyeongbuk (49), Seoul (6), Daejeon (4), Gyeonggi (4), Chungnam (4), Gyeongnam (3), Busan (2), Incheon (1), and Chungbuk (1).
