[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] The number of newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in China dropped to the 300s in a single day on the 27th.
On the 28th, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced that as of midnight, 327 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed across China. Among the new cases, 318 patients were from Hubei Province.
The number of new confirmed cases nationwide is rapidly decreasing. On the 18th, the number of new cases reached about 1,700, but it dropped to the 800s on the 19th, then decreased to around 400-500 from the 23rd to the 26th, and now has fallen to the 300s.
The death toll has been recorded at 44. Among them, 41 deaths occurred in Hubei Province, the outbreak epicenter, with additional deaths reported in Beijing (2) and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (1).
So far, the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 patients in China is 78,824. Of these, 36,117 have recovered and been discharged, and 2,788 have died. Currently, 39,919 confirmed patients are receiving treatment in hospitals, with 7,952 classified as severe cases.
The number of patients with suspected symptoms is 2,308. The cumulative number of close contacts is 656,054, of whom 65,225 are currently under medical observation.
Outside mainland China, in the Greater China region, a total of 135 confirmed cases have been reported: 93 in Hong Kong (26 discharged, 2 deaths), 10 in Macau (8 discharged), and 32 in Taiwan (6 discharged, 1 death).
