[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] LG Electronics is teaming up with Woowa Brothers, the operator of the food delivery application 'Baedal Minjok,' to expand the domestic robot market base.
On the 27th, LG Electronics and Woowa Brothers announced on the 28th that they signed a business agreement at Woowa Brothers' headquarters in Songpa-gu, Seoul, to collaborate on delivery and serving robot-related businesses. The signing ceremony was attended by No Jinseo, Head of LG Electronics' Robot Business Center (Executive Vice President), Yoon Hyunjun, Head of New Business Division at Woowa Brothers (Vice President), and other officials from both companies.
According to the agreement, the two companies plan to develop and introduce an integrated robot solution that assists restaurant operations and management, including serving robots, guide robots, and table robots.
Additionally, LG Electronics will jointly develop various robots such as delivery robots based on its robot development capabilities accumulated through core technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and indoor autonomous driving, combined with the know-how Woowa Brothers has gained from operating its service platform.
Recently, the two companies formed a consortium and applied for the '2020 Service Robot Utilization Demonstration Project' promoted by the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement.
Last month, at 'CES 2020' held in Las Vegas, USA, LG Electronics set up a robot exhibition zone called 'CLOi’s Table' and showcased the robot service 'LG CLOi Dining Solution' for restaurant operation and management. The solution is being developed to allow customers to experience various robot services such as guidance, ordering, food preparation, and serving within restaurants through the LG CLOi Dining Solution.
Vice President Yoon said, "Woowa Brothers is investing in and expanding its indoor and outdoor delivery robot business to create a future where more people can enjoy 'good food wherever they want to eat.' We expect a high synergy between Woowa Brothers' know-how, accumulated through robot-related research, development, and testing since 2017, and LG Electronics' robot technology."
Executive Vice President No emphasized, "Through collaboration with Woowa Brothers, we aim to create a better future where humans and robots coexist. To this end, we will continuously introduce differentiated robot solutions that provide customers with new experiences and value."
LG Electronics regards robots as a key pillar of its future business and is continuously developing robot-related solutions across various fields. In addition to developing proprietary technologies, it is strengthening cooperation with external entities such as specialized robot companies, startups, universities, and research institutes.
