Jeon Won-geun, Standing Auditor of Kaesong Industrial Complex Support Foundation, Runs as Proportional Candidate in 21st General Election Jeon Won-geun, Standing Auditor

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jeon Won-geun, Standing Auditor of the Kaesong Industrial Complex Support Foundation and former Democratic Party Gangnam-byeong District Chairman, announced on the 26th that he has completed the application process to support proportional representation candidates for the 21st general election, stating, "I will put the New Economic Map of the Korean Peninsula vision into action."

Jeon, the standing auditor, said, "Since I applied for the Democratic Party's proportional representation restricted competition field for diplomacy and security, competition with Kim Byung-joo, former Army General and the party's third recruited talent, is inevitable. However, the party and its members will judge who the true 'unification and security expert' is?one who is verified and prepared, combining expertise, identity, conviction, and morality."

He emphasized, "I was despairing after seeing the legal measures for permanent and irreversible peace between South and North Korea repeatedly fail at the legislative hurdle. Based on the conviction and practical experience of a scholar who has researched the 'North Korean unification field' for over 30 years, I will always be at the forefront of creating the foundation for peaceful unification between South and North Korea."

In this regard, if he enters the National Assembly as a proportional representative in the April 15 general election, he pledged to ▲promote the National Assembly's ratification of the April 27 Panmunjom Declaration and the September 19 Pyongyang Declaration ▲establish a 'South-North Cooperation Corporation' composed of the government, civic groups, and businesses, and create a legal and institutional framework for peace economy with North Korea ▲propose amendments to Article 23 of the 'Act on the Development of South and North Korea' to establish legal measures preventing acts that suspend the effectiveness of inter-Korean agreements ▲abolish the 'National Security Act' or transform it into a 'Freedom of Movement Act.'

Standing Auditor Jeon Won-geun was born in 1953 in Jecheon, Chungbuk. He graduated from Chungju High School, earned a Bachelor of Laws and a Master's in Public Administration from Sungkyunkwan University, a Master's in Security Studies from the Korea National Defense University, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Kyung Hee University Graduate School. Since then, he has dedicated himself to research and lectures on national security theory, Northeast Asian international relations, and North Korean diplomacy at Sungkyunkwan University, the National Defense University, and Kyung Hee University, pursuing a singular path toward peace between South and North Korea.

After joining the Democratic Party, he served as district chairman in Gangnam, known as a conservative stronghold, achieving the historic replacement of the district chairman and district mayor with Democratic Party members for the first time in 24 years during local elections.

Currently, he serves as the Chairman of the Seoul-Pyongyang Cooperation Committee of the Democratic Party Seoul Metropolitan Party, playing a pioneering role in implementing President Moon Jae-in's declared 'Korean Peninsula Peace Economy Initiative.'
