Controversy Over '5·18 Defamation' Kim Soon-rye, Supreme Council Member, Faces Nomination Defeat
Professor Kim Geun-sik of 'Former Ahn Cheol-soo Faction' Nominated in Songpa Byeong... Former Lawmakers Gu Sang-chan and Jeong Tae-geun Also Nominated
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] Former North Korean Ambassador to the UK Tae Yong-ho has been given priority recommendation (strategic nomination) in Seoul Gangnam-gap, a conservative stronghold. Among proportional representatives, Rep. Kim Hyun-ah received a single-candidate nomination (Goyang-jeong) for the first time. Kim Soon-rye, a Supreme Council member (proportional) involved in the '5.18 distortion controversy,' also threw her hat in the ring but was effectively cut off (excluded from nomination).
The Future United Party's Nomination Management Committee announced some nomination results for Seoul and Gyeonggi areas on the 27th, including former Ambassador Tae.
Along with former Ambassador Tae, former ING Asset Management CEO Choi Hong received a strategic nomination in Gangnam-eul.
In Songpa-gu Byeong, Professor Kim Geun-sik of Gyeongnam National University, classified as part of the former Ahn Cheol-soo faction, attracted attention by receiving a single-candidate nomination. He joined the Future United Party by participating in the Innovation Integration Promotion Committee during the unification process.
Former New Conservative Party member Gu Sang-chan was nominated as the sole candidate in Gangseo-gap. Former Rep. Jeong Tae-geun was nominated in Seongbuk-eul. Additionally, Park Yong-chan, spokesperson, was confirmed for Yeongdeungpo-eul, and lawyer Son Young-taek for Yangcheon-gu-eul.
In the Gyeonggi area, Rep. Kim Hyun-ah received a single-candidate nomination in Goyang-jeong. This is the first time a proportional representative has received a constituency nomination. On the other hand, former party branch chairman Kim Min-soo was nominated in Seongnam Bundang-eul, effectively excluding Supreme Council member Kim Soon-rye (proportional), who also applied for nomination in the same district. Former New Conservative Party member former Rep. Kwon Eun-hee was also eliminated, resulting in mixed fortunes with former Rep. Gu.
Additionally, former Rep. Kim Yong-nam was nominated in Suwon-byeong, former party branch chairman Lee Eum-jae in Bucheon Wonmi-gap, former party branch chairman Ahn Byung-do in Bucheon Ojeong, and former Minister of the Interior and Safety policy advisor Ham Kyung-woo in Goyang-eul received single-candidate recommendations. In Ansan Sangnok-gap, former Ansan Mayor Park Joo-won, from the Forward Party founded by Rep. Lee Eon-ju, received a single-candidate nomination.
The Nomination Committee also finalized primary elections in Seoul on the same day. Yongsan, which received the most nomination applications, will hold a three-way primary between Kwon Young-se, Jo Sang-gyu, and Hwang Chun-ja from the 5th to the 9th of next month. On the 5th and 6th of the same month, primaries will be held in Seocho-eul (Kang Seok-hoon vs. Park Sung-joong) and Uijeongbu-eul (Kook Eun-joo vs. Lee Hyung-seop).
Additionally, Nowon-gu Gap (Lee No-geun vs. Hyun Kyung-byeong), Eunpyeong-gu Gap (Hong In-jung vs. Shin Seong-seop), and Seodaemun-gu Gap (Lee Seong-heon vs. Yeo Myung-sook) were designated as primary election districts.
Chairman Kim left open the possibility of strategic nominations for those who declared they would not run, saying, "We are considering it."
Meanwhile, following this decision, the ruling and opposition party dynamics in some metropolitan areas have been confirmed, including ▲Gangnam-eul: Jeon Hyun-hee vs. Choi Hong ▲Goyang-jeong: Lee Yong-woo vs. Kim Hyun-ah ▲Songpa-byeong: Nam In-soon vs. Kim Geun-sik ▲Yeongdeungpo-eul: Kim Min-seok vs. Park Yong-chan.
