Expansion of Resident Convenience Support Projects Linked to the Construction of ‘Heuksan Airport’ in Sinan-gun

Amendment to Heuksan Airport Construction Support Ordinance Establishes Basis for Strengthening Resident Capacity

Expansion of Resident Convenience Support Projects Linked to the Construction of ‘Heuksan Airport’ in Sinan-gun

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Sinan County, Jeollanam-do (County Governor Park Woo-ryang) announced on the 27th that it has revised the support ordinance and secured a related budget to enhance resident convenience projects and resident capacity building in the Heuksan area in connection with the Heuksan Airport construction project.

At the 2nd plenary session of the 283rd Sinan County Council extraordinary meeting held on the 17th, the partial amendment of the 'Support Ordinance for Heuksan Airport Construction' and a budget of 170 million KRW for resident convenience support projects were secured in the first supplementary budget of 2020.

The main contents include support for necessary expenses such as coin-operated communal laundries (6 washing machines and dryers) in the marine ecological tourist sites Heuksando and Hongdo, purchase of bedding for rural lodging, and study tours for resident capacity building.

Since Heuksando is included in a national park, various activities are restricted. Especially this winter, residents who protect Heuksando by yielding winter cabbage (spring cabbage) to migratory birds have expanded the scope of convenience projects to establish income bases and capacity-building support projects such as study tours.

Assemblyman Ahn Won-jun, a native of Heuksan-myeon and the representative proposer of the amended ordinance, said, "Through this partial amendment of the ordinance, we expect to revitalize tourism in the Heuksan area and increase residents' income by supporting bedding and washing machine purchase costs for lodging businesses and rural lodging farms in connection with the construction of Heuksan Airport."

Meanwhile, Sinan County plans to actively promote a plan to separate migratory bird habitats from the planned airport construction site by selecting 12 sites for migratory bird nesting projects for the purpose of migratory bird protection, which is a major issue in the park committee due to changes in the airport construction park plan, and first creating grasslands and wetlands in two pilot project sites.
