Securing High-Quality Language Data Necessary for AI Utilization
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] NCSoft announced on the 27th that it will conduct a joint class with Yonsei University College of Liberal Arts to build Korean spoken language artificial intelligence (AI) training data.
NCSoft and Yonsei University College of Liberal Arts' Institute of Humanities Convergence Education have prepared an industry-academia linked lecture as part of the Digital Humanities Convergence Education Program under the University Innovation Support Project. The purpose is to secure high-quality language data necessary for utilizing the Korean language in AI and to contribute to nurturing talent for the 4th Industrial Revolution based on the humanities.
The course offered in the first semester of this year is "Language Analysis Using Computers." Professor Han-sem Kim of Yonsei University College of Liberal Arts will conduct the class. NCSoft will provide online work tools used in actual language analysis. The results of the class will be shared with students as practical experience applied in the industry.
In the second semester, a course titled "Digital Language Data and Humanities" will be offered. This class focuses on building training data related to linguistic expressions of human inner feelings such as sentiment, emotion, and desire. There are also plans to conduct graduate-level interdisciplinary programs in language informatics and industry-academia projects at Yonsei University.
Lee Yeon-su, head of language AI R&D at NCSoft's Natural Language Processing (NLP) Center, said, "Through the 'ellipsis restoration data' built in the industry-academia cooperation class with Yonsei University, AI will better understand the context of the Korean language, enabling more efficient conversations between humans and AI based on this."
Meanwhile, NCSoft is serving as an advisor for the language resource construction of Yonsei University's Language Information Research Institute and has been jointly conducting research with Yonsei University from data and linguistic perspectives to improve the performance of AI chatbot services since last year.
