[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 27th, the Minsaeng Party held its first Supreme Council meeting and argued that if the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) situation is not resolved by early March, the April 15 general election should be postponed.
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Co-Representative Yoo Seong-yeop stated, “If the situation is not resolved by early March, the general election must be postponed to protect the spread of the disease and the rights of voters,” adding, “It is not important to be a member of the National Assembly; the life and safety of the people come first. The Minsaeng Party will focus solely on the people.”
Co-Representative Yoo emphasized, “The Minsaeng Party will field candidates in all 253 electoral districts nationwide,” and “By mid-next week, we must conclude whether or not to merge with external forces. Furthermore, we will promptly transition to an election campaign committee system.”
Co-Representative Kim Jeong-hwa said, “We will definitely win the general election. Above all, breaking the old political structure of the two extremes is the top priority. We will judge the entrenched two major parties that do not care about the people,” and added, “The three co-representatives will recognize each other’s uniqueness and lead the party through dialogue. We will break away from old ideologies and pursue practical politics.”
Regarding the COVID-19 situation, Co-Representative Kim criticized, “The mask export situation must be thoroughly reexamined. Following Taiwan’s example, the government should consider purchasing all masks produced daily,” and said, “The total failure of quarantine has made people’s livelihoods difficult, and the repeated verbal mistakes by high-ranking officials of the government and ruling party are stabbing the hearts of the people. The Moon Jae-in administration and the Democratic Party must reflect and apologize to the people first.”
Co-Representative Park Joo-hyun stated, “The election should be postponed as much as possible within the term of the 20th National Assembly,” and “All national capabilities must be poured into overcoming the crisis.”
Co-Representative Park added, “The government and ruling party hesitate or oppose postponing the election due to responsibility issues, and the main opposition party does not want to miss the opportunity to attack, but there can be no calculation of election advantages or disadvantages when the people are crying out.”

Supreme Council member Lee In-hee said, “The ruling party’s arrogance and arrogance, lack of policy, and incompetence have reached their peak, and the fake conservative forces have regrouped as a road impeachment party,” adding, “The Minsaeng Party will take the lead in rejecting incompetent progressives and corrupt conservatives and rooting practical centrist politics.”
Supreme Council member Hwang In-cheol said, “From now on, I will do my best for the victory of the Minsaeng Party and for the people’s livelihood first.”
Supreme Council member Lee Gwan-seung said, “I will do my best to respond to COVID-19,” and “I will take the lead so that the Minsaeng Party can become a healthy opposition party.”
At the Supreme Council meeting that day, the Minsaeng Party approved the appointments of Secretary-General Hwang Han-ung, Deputy Secretaries-General Yang Yoon-nyeong (General Affairs), Kim Young-dong (Organization), Kim Si-rae (Public Relations), and Ryu Gwan-seon (Digital). The chief spokesperson will be Assemblyman Choi Do-ja, who will form a spokesperson group with four others: Kang Shin-eop, Kim Jeong-hyun, Son Dong-ho, and Moon Jeong-seon. Secretary offices for the party leader, No Young-gwan, Lee Cha-bok, and Lee Jae-ho, were also appointed respectively.
