GS Donates 1 Billion KRW in Support Funds for COVID-19

GS Donates 1 Billion KRW in Support Funds for COVID-19 Heo Tae-soo, Chairman of GS Group

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] On the 27th, GS Group donated 1 billion KRW to the Community Chest of Korea to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and support the victims.

GS Chairman Huh Tae-soo stated, "In the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, all citizens are going through difficult times, and we hope this will help the medical staff and victims who are working hard despite the challenging environment." He added, "Going forward, GS will do its best to support disaster-vulnerable groups in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions and low-income families affected by the economic downturn."

Separately from this COVID-19 support donation, GS has actively taken measures to overcome the COVID-19 crisis through its affiliates.

GS Retail urgently provided relief supplies worth 100 million KRW in January to Korean residents returning from Wuhan, China, due to COVID-19. GS Retail, in cooperation with Jincheon City, Chungbuk Province, supported food and daily necessities for Wuhan residents and international students who were evacuated to quarantine facilities due to COVID-19.

The emergency relief supplies provided by GS Retail to the Wuhan residents include food items such as lunch boxes, bottled water, and cup noodles, as well as basic hygiene products worth 100 million KRW, including Yours wet tissues, Garglin mouthwash, and toothpaste and toothbrush sets.

Additionally, GS Home Shopping donated 300,000 masks in January to prevent the rapidly spreading COVID-19 infection and support marginalized groups. The 300,000 masks donated by GS Home Shopping were distributed to about 10,000 children and elderly people with weakened immunity through the Community Chest of Korea. Each person received 30 masks, enough for one month’s use.

As mask demand surged explosively right after the Lunar New Year holiday, GS Home Shopping secured a quantity of masks for marginalized groups in advance before the stock ran out.
