Additional COVID-19 Cases Reported in Suwon and Yongin

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] One additional confirmed case of 'Novel Coronavirus Infection' (COVID-19) was reported on the 27th in each of Suwon and Yongin cities in Gyeonggi Province.


Yeom Tae-young, mayor of Suwon, announced on Facebook that "a 38-year-old woman living alone in Hanmaru Apartment, Jeongja 2-dong, Jangan-gu, was confirmed positive for COVID-19 at 3:30 a.m. today."


The woman, an employee of the Gyeonggi Family and Women’s Research Institute, a public institution under Gyeonggi Province, was found through epidemiological investigation to have come into contact with the first confirmed patient in Nowon-gu, Seoul, at a restaurant located in Mapo-gu.


The woman visited the screening clinic at Jangan-gu Public Health Center in Suwon at 1:42 p.m. on the 25th, where a specimen was collected, and was confirmed positive in the early morning of the following day. She experienced headaches and sputum symptoms from the 26th to the 27th after specimen collection.


The Gyeonggi Family and Women’s Research Institute closed from the afternoon of the previous day until the 27th and placed all 51 employees, except for those on duty, under self-quarantine.


Additionally, four other public institutions sharing the same building in Pajang-dong, Jangan-gu ? Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, Gyeonggi Research Institute, Gyeonggi Lifelong Education Promotion Institute, and Gyeonggi Welfare Foundation ? also closed temporarily.


Whether to extend the closure period will be decided based on the results of the epidemiological investigation.


In Yongin City, the wife (30 years old) of the second confirmed patient, a 35-year-old man living in Jukjeon-dong, Suji-gu, tested positive at 2:20 a.m. on the same day.


Baek Gun-gi, mayor of Yongin, stated on Facebook that "the woman’s two children, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law all tested negative."


The woman lives with her husband, the second confirmed patient in Yongin, and their two children in Dongseong 2nd Apartment, Jukjeon-dong, Suji-gu.


After the husband’s positive diagnosis on the 26th, Suji-gu Public Health Center visited their home to collect a specimen from the wife. Upon her confirmation as a patient, the two children were entrusted to the maternal family’s home in Dongcheon-dong, Suji-gu.


Suwon and Yongin cities will disclose detailed movement routes of the additional confirmed patients to the public as soon as they become available.
