From March 2, Applications Open for 600 Individual and Group Garden Plots... Enjoy the Fun of Growing and the Joy of Eating, Two Benefits in One

Seoul Gangseo-gu, Recruiting Participants for Community Garden Project

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is preparing 600 garden plots and recruiting participants to support residents in fully enjoying the fun of farming outdoors nearby.

The charm of urban agriculture is "to farm directly within the city and be close to nature." In particular, people can enjoy the joy and fulfillment of harvest by tasting the crops they have grown with their families.

The garden plots are divided into two types: Ogok Garden, which families can participate in together, and Healing Garden, which groups can join.

Ogok Garden (around 417-2 Ogok-dong) is available for individual households to apply for, with an area of 10㎡ provided per household. A total of 550 plots are prepared, and the participation fee is 30,000 KRW per year.

Healing Garden (around 22-2 Gwahae-dong) is available for groups such as daycare centers and companies to apply for, with an area of 33㎡ provided per group. A total of 50 plots are prepared, and the participation fee is 100,000 KRW per year.

Households or groups wishing to participate in urban agriculture can apply through the district office website (Open Plaza → Online Application) from 10 a.m. on March 2 to 6 p.m. on March 8.

The district office will select winners through a computerized lottery on March 11, and the results can be checked on the district office website under Notices.

The district plans to provide on-site and theoretical education on gardening so that families can enjoy urban agriculture together in the warm spring fields, offering advice and assistance to beginner farmers.

They are also preparing the "Gangseo Urban Farmer School," which offers opportunities for eco-friendly nature experiences and learning farming techniques.

A district official said, "Gardening has many advantages as urban agriculture, including the chance to talk and heal with family," and added, "We hope many interested families and groups will participate."
