"Even If You Don't Like It, Moon Jae-in Is Our Country's President"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon criticized the United Future Party, which has been calling for a complete ban on Chinese nationals entering the country in response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), saying, "They must stop inciting the public."
On the 26th, Jin posted on his Facebook, "If you have no intention to help, at least do not interfere," expressing this view.
He criticized, "How can they keep repeating that Shincheonji, which is responsible for more than 70% of COVID-19 infections, is the victim?" He added, "In a situation where they are ignoring the government's and society's reasonable requests due to religious fanaticism and spreading the infection nationwide, is it appropriate to shout 'Don't shift the responsibility to Shincheonji' just to make the president the perpetrator?"
He continued, "If you still believe that blocking external sources is the only solution, then you should argue for locking down Daegu and Gyeongbuk to protect other regions," adding, "There have been only one or two infection cases caused by Chinese nationals, while infections caused by Daegu's Shincheonji have already reached hundreds and are expected to exceed a thousand soon. The infectivity is the same whether it is Wuhan or Daegu."
He further pointed out, "What does the United Future Party gain by dividing the people with the incitement of 'Why block Daegu but not China?'" He noted, "The routes from Daegu and Gyeongbuk to Seoul have not been blocked, and no one is proposing the absurd measure of quarantining those entering other regions for two weeks."
Jin also said, "However, the United Future Party still parrots only the talk of blocking China," and criticized, "As examples from Europe and the United States show, it is an unrealistic expectation to maintain a clean area by 100% blocking the source of infection through lockdown."
He added, "It is reasonable to focus on effectively tracking and blocking infection sources and, if tracking is impossible, to minimize the spread. This is already being done. In this situation, pointing fingers at China for political reasons only causes confusion in quarantine efforts."
Addressing United Future Party leader Hwang Kyo-ahn, he wrote, "Keep your promise not to politicize this issue," and added, "During the 9/11 incident, former President Clinton of the Democratic Party stood beside Republican President Bush. At that moment, he shouted, 'I fully support President Bush.' No matter how much you dislike it, Moon Jae-in is currently our country's president."
