Seongdong-gu to Train and Employ Workers for the 4th Industrial Revolution Era

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will develop and operate expert training courses in artificial intelligence (AI) and drone fields starting in March to cultivate specialized personnel in the Fourth Industrial Revolution sector and link them directly to employment.

While the market size for Fourth Industrial Revolution industries such as artificial intelligence (AI) technology and big data is rapidly expanding, companies are facing difficulties in hiring quality talent due to a shortage of immediately deployable personnel, frequent turnover, and the burden of workforce management.

Accordingly, the district will develop and operate training courses based on the technologies and education required by companies and industrial sites, and promote a "confirmed employment project" that connects graduates directly to employment through talent employment agreements with related Fourth Industrial Revolution companies.

The courses cover two fields: "Youth Talent Development in Artificial Intelligence (AI)" and "Drone Expert Training."

First, the AI field will recruit 20 unemployed individuals who are graduates or expected graduates with a bachelor's or associate degree in IT-related departments in March.

The training will be conducted over five months starting in April. Three months will be a common course teaching key training content based on corporate demand surveys, followed by two months of practical training where company researchers or technicians participate to carry out company-customized projects.

After course completion and evaluation, 80% of the graduates will be immediately employed by a total of 13 related companies that have signed talent employment agreements with the district.

The "Drone Expert Training Course" is divided into the "Coding Drone Control Expert Course" and the "Video Shooting Drone Expert Course," each recruiting 20 participants. Any unemployed youth aged 39 or younger residing in Seoul can participate. Applications are currently open, with the Coding Drone course accepting applications until April 1 and the Video Shooting Drone course until May 6.

The drone market is expanding beyond aerial photography to various fields such as agriculture, marine disaster site deployment, product delivery, construction supervision, and surveying, increasing the demand for specialized personnel with diverse technical skills.

Through these training courses, participants will acquire professional skills as coding drone control experts and video shooting drone experts. After completing the training, tailored employment support including job placement and accompanied interviews will be provided at 96 companies and educational institutions requiring drone technicians, reflecting individual characteristics.

This project is promoted with 340 million KRW in national funding, selected through the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s "2020 Regional Industry Customized Job Creation Support Project" competition.

Seongdong-gu operates the "Seongdong Fourth Industrial Revolution Experience Center," which includes the district’s top indoor drone practice facility and offers experiences in coding, 3D printing, AR·VR, and other Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies. It also runs a "Makerspace" for various 3D printing education and practice, including a "3D Printer Operator National Qualification Preparation Course," leading education and talent development in the Fourth Industrial Revolution sector.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "We will spare no effort to educate youth in advanced and specialized technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and support the creation of sustainable jobs based on this."
