Yongsan-gu Completes Warm Winter Fundraising: 1.08 Billion KRW in Donations (1,279 Cases), 348.89 Million KRW in Goods (129 Cases), Totaling 1.43 Billion KRW, Exceeding Target (1.352 Billion KRW) by 5.72%
On December 18th last year, Son Geum-yeop (right), the 'Hyochang-dong Donation Angel,' visited the Hyochang-dong Community Center and donated 1.5 million won to Lee Jeong-nam, the district chief.

On December 18 last year, Son Geum-yeop (female, 85) visited the Hyochang-dong Community Service Center. She came to donate 1.5 million won for helping neighbors in need. Son, who runs a street stall at Yongmun Traditional Market, has donated 1 million won annually to the community center for the past 10 years, earning her the nickname ‘Hyochang-dong Donation Angel.’
Yongsan-gu (District Mayor) raised 1,429.28 million won in donations and goods through the ‘2020 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign (Daggyeo).’
This exceeded the fundraising goal (1,352 million won) by 5.72%.
The campaign ran for three months from November 20, 2019, to February 19, 2020. The district collected 1,080.39 million won in cash donations (1,279 cases) and 348.89 million won worth of goods (129 cases).
People from all walks of life participated in the donations.
On December 3 last year, the Korea Specialty Contractors Association Seoul Chapter (President Lee Jae-rim) visited the district office and donated 3 million won. The association is an organization that carries out various projects for the development of specialty construction businesses.
HDC Shilla Duty Free (CEO Kim Hoe-eon, Ko Sun-geon) sent 30 million won on January 3. The funds are intended for scholarships for children from low-income families. HDC Shilla Duty Free is a joint venture between HDC Group and Hotel Shilla, currently operating the Shilla I’Park Duty Free at Yongsan Station I’Park Mall.
KBS weathercaster Kang Ah-rang, known as the ‘Weather Goddess,’ also joined the good cause, visiting the district office on February 4 to donate 5 million won. Kang said, “I planned this donation to contribute, even if just a little, to Yongsan where I live. I hope the funds will be used well for a good cause.”
On the 10th, the International Lions Club District 354-A (Governor Mo Young-bae) donated 10 million won to the district. The International Lions Club is known as the world’s largest non-governmental organization (NGO) volunteer group with 1.4 million members across 213 countries.

Yongsan District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun said, “Despite the difficulties caused by COVID-19 and other challenges, many people participated in the Daggyeo campaign. The funds raised will be used appropriately to support low-income residents in the area.”
The Daggyeo campaign is a public-private partnership project conducted with the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest. Last year, the district raised 1,773.12 million won (1,377.53 million won in cash donations, 415.59 million won in goods) and spent 70 million won on living and medical expenses for low-income families, sharing kimchi for love, and youth academy linkage projects (Hope Up Dream Up).
