COVID-19 Response Criticism, President Moon Impeachment 청 Petition
"The Most Important Thing Is Protecting Our Citizens"
청와대 Must Officially Respond Within One Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] The number of signatories to the Blue House petition calling for the impeachment of President Moon Jae-in surpassed 900,000 on the 27th. As of 6:22 a.m. that day, the petition had garnered 913,719 signatures. Accordingly, having met the Blue House's response threshold of over 200,000 signatures, the Blue House is required to issue a response within a month.
The petitioner pointed out issues in the government's response to the novel coronavirus infection. In the petition titled "We urge the impeachment of President Moon Jae-in," posted on the 4th, the petitioner criticized, "The more I see President Moon's handling, the more it seems like watching the president of China."
They continued, "While domestic mask prices have surged more than tenfold and shortages persist, the president supported China with 3 million masks," and claimed, "No measures have been taken regarding the soaring mask prices."
The petition was posted on the 4th, before the government implemented measures to stabilize mask supply. The masks sent to China were provided by private organizations, and the government assisted with transportation via chartered cargo flights.

The petitioner further stated, "While 62 countries worldwide have imposed strong sanctions such as banning entry of Chinese nationals and foreigners who transited through China, the government is only now implementing a 'ban on entry of foreigners who visited Hubei Province within two weeks,'" and criticized, "This makes no sense at all."
They argued, "Many Chinese nationals escaped just before the lockdown of Wuhan, and if restrictions are only placed on foreigners who visited Hubei Province after the lockdown, Chinese nationals in other regions will still be able to enter and exit Korea freely."
They added, "As the president of the Republic of Korea, isn't protecting one's own citizens the most important? We can no longer stand by. It is difficult to consider President Moon as our country's president."
Meanwhile, a petition demanding President Moon's impeachment also gained over 200,000 signatures last April.
At that time, the Blue House responded, "According to the Constitution, the impeachment of the president is a matter decided by the Constitutional Court following a motion passed by the National Assembly," and asked for understanding, stating, "Due to the principle of separation of powers, it is difficult for the government to respond to such petitions."
