First COVID-19 Confirmed Case Reported in Yangcheon-gu

26-Year-Old A from Sinwol-dong Visited Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital... Family Under Quarantine and Testing Requested

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Kim Soo-young) announced on the 26th that the first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has occurred.

The confirmed patient is Mr. A (26), residing in Sinwol 3-dong, Yangcheon-gu, who had visited Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital. He showed initial symptoms on the 20th and visited the Yangcheon-gu Public Health Center's screening clinic on the 25th for testing. As a result, he was finally confirmed positive on the evening of the 26th and was transferred to a nationally designated hospital.

The district immediately implemented related measures such as isolating the medical staff who had contact at the Yangcheon-gu Public Health Center screening clinic and conducting disinfection. Self-quarantine measures and specimen tests were also carried out for one cohabitant.

Additionally, the district is cooperating with the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's epidemiological investigation and plans to promptly disclose the patient's movement path after symptom onset that poses an infection risk.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, "Yangcheon-gu Office will temporarily close all public facilities except the district office and community service centers, including sports facilities and libraries. We will frequently conduct disinfection work at multi-use facilities and make every effort to prevent community infection."
