[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 26th, the Gwangyang Fire Station in Jeonnam announced that on the 24th, upon hearing that the recent impact of COVID-19 has caused disruptions in the smooth supply of blood, about 50 fire officers and volunteer firefighters actively participated in a blood donation event to help alleviate the blood supply shortage.
During the blood donation event, to prevent infection, the following measures were implemented: ▶ pre-disinfection of the blood donation waiting area ▶ completion of pre-questionnaires ▶ wearing masks and hand sanitization ▶ temperature checks before blood donation.
According to the Korean Red Cross, during the winter season when the number of blood donors decreases, concerns about the spread of COVID-19 have significantly reduced the number of donors, causing the blood stock to fall well below the appropriate level of a 5-day supply.
Song Taehyun, chief of the Gwangyang Fire Station, said, “I hope this participation in blood donation will help resolve the blood supply shortage caused by COVID-19,” and added, “As fire officers and volunteer firefighters who protect the lives of the people, we will continue to practice 119 love.”
