[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Convenience store Seven Eleven is launching support activities for residents in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions who are facing difficulties such as shortages of daily necessities due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
From the 27th until the 11th of next month, Seven Eleven will select 10 essential daily items such as bottled water, ramen, instant rice, and tissues, and offer discounts of 20-30% by item at about 1,000 stores in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas for two weeks.
This initiative was prepared to minimize the economic and psychological burdens on local residents amid a significant increase in demand for daily necessities due to the spread of COVID-19, and the reluctance to travel long distances or go out.
The products prepared by Seven Eleven include ‘Icis 2L (6-pack)’, ‘Jin Ramen Spicy Flavor (5-pack)’, ‘Hetbahn 3-bundle’, ‘Ottogi Rice’, ‘Fresh Large Eggs (20-pack)’, ‘Spam Classic 200g’, ‘3-Minute Curry Spicy Flavor’, ‘Daeco Soft 3-ply Tissue 30 rolls’, ‘PB Chamgoso Han Dosirak Gim 8-pack’, and ‘Dongwon Light Tuna’.
Additionally, from the 2nd of next month for one month, Seven Eleven will offer a 20% discount on major daily necessities nationwide through the Seven Eleven mobile app ‘Seven App’ for pre-order sales at stores nationwide.
The main discounted items include a total of 14 products: 8 general items such as ramen, instant rice, tissues, canned goods, and 6 meal kit ‘Seven Cook’ products such as pork gochujang stew and perilla seed baeksundae stir-fry. Among these, general products like ramen, instant rice, and canned tuna will be sold in boxes or bundles for consumer convenience in bulk purchasing.
After selecting the products to purchase through the Seven App, customers can designate a nearby Seven Eleven store as the pickup location, eliminating the need to travel far for shopping.
Meanwhile, Seven Eleven has also prepared support measures for franchise owners who are experiencing difficulties operating stores due to COVID-19. For stores closed due to COVID-19, food products such as lunch boxes will be supported with 100% disposal compensation, and upon request from owners, operating hours can be flexibly adjusted or stores can be temporarily closed.
In particular, for stores in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions, the current disposal support will be further expanded, and masks will be supplied preferentially as soon as stock is secured.
Choi Kyung-ho, CEO of Seven Eleven, said, “We prepared this event hoping to share difficulties and help overcome the crisis during this challenging national time. We will do our best to secure sufficient quantities of daily necessities and supply them appropriately where needed.”
