Recruitment Open Until March 11 for Elementary and Middle Schools... 'Visiting Environmental Love Classroom' and 'Environmental Basic Facility Tour' Included
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) will designate and operate the ‘Environmental Love Practice Schools’ targeting 25 elementary and middle schools in the district from next month to foster proper environmental awareness among youth.
The ‘Environmental Love Practice Schools’ program will recruit elementary and middle schools in the district until the 11th of next month, and 25 schools will be selected through evaluation. The district will provide a total of 86.3 million KRW to support schools in independently running various programs suited to their circumstances, such as school gardens, environmental clubs, campaigns, ecological experiences, and craft classes.
Additionally, the district will operate ‘Visiting Environmental Love Classes’ in collaboration with organizations such as Yangjaecheon Love Environment Keepers and Gangnam-Seocho Environmental Movement Federation, offering diverse experiential learning on environmental topics like climate change, energy saving, and renewable energy to students of the 25 schools.
For schools that wish to participate, 25 tours will be conducted from September to visit seven environmental infrastructure facilities, including the Tancheon Water Reuse Center and Gangnam Resource Recovery Facility.
Shin Yeon-soon, Director of the Environment Division, stated, “As represented by Greta Thunberg, the teenage girl from Sweden, and the cry of the ‘Must-Environment Generation,’ the environment is no longer something ‘good to protect’ but an essential condition that ‘must be protected.’ We hope this will serve as an opportunity for schools and homes to make energy saving a daily habit, such as by joining the Eco Mileage program, for the sake of future generations.”
