Jungnang-gu Achieves Record High of 1.686 Billion Won in Warm Winter Fundraising... All-Time Best

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) announced that, in collaboration with the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest, it raised a total of approximately 1.68 billion KRW, including 470 million KRW in donations and 1.21 billion KRW worth of goods (converted value), through the '2020 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Project' conducted over three months from November 20 last year to February 19 this year.

This amount represents a 5.7% increase compared to last year's fundraising total of approximately 1.596 billion KRW, surpassing the initial target of about 1.64 billion KRW, and marks the highest amount ever raised.

Despite the challenging social atmosphere caused by the economic downturn in Gyeonggi Province and the COVID-19 pandemic, the gathering of warm hearts to raise the highest donations holds greater significance than ever before.

In particular, the love piggy banks collected by children from national, public, private, and home daycare centers in the region over the course of a year amounted to an impressive 44 million KRW in donations. Local financial institutions contributed approximately 39 million KRW worth of Onnuri gift certificates, greatly aiding the revitalization of traditional markets and alleviating the financial hardships of low-income families.

The donated goods worth about 1.21 billion KRW were primarily distributed to low-income residents such as recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security, elderly living alone, single-parent families, and children in foster care to help them have a warm winter.

The remaining donations will be used throughout the year to identify and support welfare blind spots and implement projects tailored to the characteristics of each neighborhood through the Happy Sharing Council in each district.

Awards and certificates of appreciation will be presented to individuals and organizations who practiced neighborly love through donations of money and goods.

Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, expressed, “I sincerely thank the many children, elderly, and others who participated in the culture of giving to share a warm winter with neighbors in need.” He added, “This year as well, we plan to actively promote various ‘Jungnang-type welfare policies’ to create a ‘warmer welfare Jungnang together.’”
