[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT has decided to implement remote work for its employees until the 6th of next month to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to KT on the 25th, the company announced that it will encourage all employees to work from home until the 6th of next month, including weekends. The company will implement a two-shift system by dividing all employees into two groups. Half of the employees who can work remotely will work from home until the 6th of next month, and the decision on whether the other half will work remotely will be made depending on the spread of the disease thereafter.
In particular, pregnant women, vulnerable health groups, employees with childcare responsibilities, and those with similar symptoms are required to work from home. Employees in Daegu and Gyeongbuk will also work entirely from home until the situation stabilizes. The remote work group includes key executives such as Ku Hyun-mo, the designated CEO of KT, and other senior officials.
To prevent infection, KT has also banned overseas travel, business trips, and mobile work. Convenience facilities such as daycare centers and sports centers will be closed. Group activities and training sessions have been temporarily suspended to minimize contact inside and outside the company. Entry to the office building will be restricted if masks are not worn. Additionally, the operating hours of thermal imaging cameras will be extended from just the morning arrival time to include lunchtime. When performing tasks such as service activation or A/S, the use of hygiene gloves and hand sanitizers will be mandatory.
Earlier, SK Telecom also decided to have all employees work from home until the 1st of next month. The company is closely monitoring the situation and has arranged shift work and backup systems for employees who must work in the office due to job requirements, preparing for a prolonged situation.
