[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 25th, a total of 12 COVID-19 confirmed cases occurred in Seoul's Gangdong-gu, Eunpyeong-gu, Dongjak-gu, Mapo-gu, Geumcheon-gu, Gwanak-gu, Nowon-gu, and Songpa-gu.
In particular, two people, including the associate pastor of Myeongseong Church in Gangdong-gu, a large church with 60,000 members, were confirmed as COVID-19 positive, raising concerns that it might be a source of coronavirus spread similar to the Shincheonji Church.
Lee Jeong-hoon, the mayor of Gangdong-gu, announced that two out of nine people, including the associate pastor of Myeongseong Church who visited the Nonghyup funeral hall in Cheongdo Daenam Hospital, were confirmed as COVID-19 positive.
In a briefing held that morning, Mayor Lee stated, "Yesterday, a total of nine people, including visitors to the funeral hall and the bereaved family, directly visited the Gangdong-gu Public Health Center and requested specimen collection. As a result, two out of nine tested positive, and the remaining seven tested negative. The two confirmed cases (Associate Pastor A and B, the child of a missionary acquaintance of A) were newly identified today."
Currently, all nine individuals are under self-quarantine. Among them, the two confirmed cases will be isolated in nationally designated hospital beds, and the remaining seven are under self-quarantine, he added.
Eunpyeong-gu announced that one resident (female, born in 1995, residing in Yeokchon-dong, Eunpyeong-gu) who visited the Seoul Metropolitan Seobuk Hospital screening clinic located in Eunpyeong-gu was confirmed as COVID-19 positive.
This patient visited the Seobuk Hospital screening clinic on the 24th, underwent a COVID-19 test, and received a positive result on the 25th.
She works as an occupational therapist at Seoul Rehabilitation Hospital (located in Gusan-dong, Eunpyeong-gu). Although her family lives in Gangdong-gu, she has no history of visiting there since Lunar New Year, and she lives in a dormitory (a house) near the hospital with six colleagues.
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) announced on the 25th that the first COVID-19 confirmed case occurred in the district.
The confirmed patient was identified as Mr. A (born in 1958, male), residing in Sadang-dong, Dongjak-gu. Mr. A contacted a colleague (a Shincheonji Church member and confirmed patient) in Daegu on the 21st, visited the Dongjak-gu Public Health Center screening clinic by car on the 24th for testing, and immediately returned home by car. He is currently under self-quarantine.
Mr. A was notified of the final positive result by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) at 9:50 a.m. on the 25th. He is waiting for hospital bed allocation, and his condition is stable.
Two family members (spouse and child) living with the confirmed patient are self-quarantining in a separate space at home.
Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) announced on the 25th that a resident of Gimpo City who was tested at the Mapo-gu Public Health Center screening clinic was confirmed as COVID-19 positive.
On the 24th, a 36-year-old male resident of Gimpo City, who was commuting to an office in Seoul via the Airport Railroad, experienced fever and chills, got off at Digital Media City Station, and took a taxi to the Mapo-gu Public Health Center screening clinic.
At the Mapo-gu screening clinic, specimens were collected and tested, and at around 9:20 p.m. on the 24th, he was notified of a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.
The confirmed patient, who was self-quarantining at his home in Gimpo City after visiting the Mapo-gu screening clinic, was admitted to Gyeonggi Medical Center Icheon Hospital at around 12:20 a.m. on the 25th. The KCDC is currently conducting a detailed epidemiological investigation of his movements.
In Geumcheon-gu, a 74-year-old Chinese woman residing in Doksan-dong was confirmed as COVID-19 positive.
Accordingly, Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) has expanded disinfection efforts and strengthened building access control, entering an emergency response posture.
The woman visited Qingdao, China, on the 16th for visa renewal, developed symptoms, visited the Geumcheon-gu screening clinic on the 24th, and received a preliminary positive result on the 25th.
The district is conducting extensive disinfection around the confirmed patient's residence and nearby areas and is investigating her movement history. Specimen tests were requested for three cohabitants, who are now under self-quarantine.
Gwanak-gu reported its first COVID-19 confirmed case on the 25th.
Mayor Park Jun-hee said, "The first confirmed case has occurred in Gwanak-gu. We have made every effort to block COVID-19, but we regret to bring this unfortunate news to our residents."
The confirmed patient is a 60-year-old woman living near Nakseongdae Station in Gwanak-gu. She was a close contact of a confirmed couple (cases 372 and 573) from Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, on the 19th of this month. After being notified by the Yuseong-gu Public Health Center on the 22nd as a contact of confirmed patients, she developed symptoms on the 24th during self-quarantine and tested positive today. Cases 372 and 573 had stayed near Nakseongdae in Gwanak-gu from around 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on February 19th.
Nowon-gu reported two confirmed cases on the same day. Oh Seung-rok, mayor of Nowon-gu, announced on his Facebook page that the first COVID-19 case in Nowon-gu was confirmed around 1 p.m. on the 25th. The confirmed patient is a 42-year-old male residing in Sanggye-dong, who was infected by a sexual harassment prevention education instructor who was a confirmed case at his workplace in Mapo-gu on the 19th.
The patient experienced muscle pain, fever, and chills from the morning of the 23rd until early morning of the 24th. After consulting the disease control center, he visited the Nowon-gu Public Health Center on the 24th for testing and was confirmed positive on the 25th.
Another person was also confirmed as COVID-19 positive, bringing the total confirmed cases in Nowon-gu to two.
On the 25th, three additional confirmed cases occurred in Songpa-gu.
Park Seong-su, mayor of Songpa-gu, announced at a briefing at 3:30 p.m. that the fifth confirmed case in Songpa-gu is a 44-year-old woman living in Jamsil-dong. She is a colleague of the second confirmed case in Songpa-gu. After hearing about her colleague's COVID-19 diagnosis after 10 p.m. on the 22nd, she inquired at the Songpa-gu Public Health Center at 6 p.m. on the 23rd. She visited the screening clinic at 10 a.m. on the 24th for specimen collection and was confirmed positive the same day. She was transferred to Chung-Ang University Hospital, a nationally designated treatment hospital.
The sixth confirmed case in Songpa-gu is a 27-year-old woman living in Seokchon-dong. She works at the Police Hospital. She was tested on the afternoon of the 24th and confirmed positive at 8 a.m. on the 25th. She is currently receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.
Additionally, the seventh confirmed case in Songpa-gu is a 40-year-old man living in Bangi-dong. He met with the third confirmed case in Songpa-gu for business.
Although asymptomatic on the morning of the 24th, after hearing about the third confirmed case in Songpa-gu, he was tested at 7 p.m. the same day and confirmed positive at 8 a.m. on the 25th. He was transferred to the National Medical Center.
Thus, Songpa-gu has seven confirmed COVID-19 cases, with one patient having been discharged.
