[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The ninth domestic death from the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) was confirmed to have had contact with a confirmed case from the Shincheonji Jesus Church in Daegu.
Jung Eun-kyung, head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters for COVID-19, stated at the regular briefing on the 25th, "The ninth deceased was classified as a contact of a confirmed case from the Shincheonji Daegu Church," adding, "Further investigations are underway regarding the cause of death and the route of infection."
The deceased was a woman in her 60s who was hospitalized and receiving treatment at Chilgok Kyungpook National University Hospital in Gyeongbuk and passed away at around 3:10 PM the previous day. She was admitted through the hospital emergency room on the 23rd after showing symptoms of abdominal bloating. Subsequently, she exhibited pneumonia symptoms and underwent a COVID-19 diagnostic test, which posthumously confirmed positive. According to health authorities, the deceased had a very low oxygen saturation level upon admission and was immediately placed on mechanical ventilation.
Meanwhile, regarding the eighth death, who passed away the previous afternoon at Kyungpook National University Hospital in Daegu, Director Jung said, "This patient had been hospitalized for a long period, and it was confirmed that death occurred due to worsening pneumonia, which is considered to be related to COVID-19." This deceased was a 67-year-old male, classified as the 107th confirmed COVID-19 case in the country. Among the nine confirmed COVID-19 deaths so far, six, including this man, were patients related to the cluster infection at Daenam Hospital in Cheongdo, Gyeongbuk.
