[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) announced on the 25th that the first confirmed case of COVID-19 has occurred in the area.

The confirmed patient was identified as Mr. A (born in 1958, male), residing in Sadang-dong, Dongjak-gu. Mr. A came into contact with a colleague from Daegu (a Shincheonji church member and confirmed patient) on the 21st, and on the 24th, he visited the screening clinic at the Dongjak-gu Public Health Center by his own car for testing. He then returned home by car and is currently under self-quarantine.

On the 25th at 9:50 AM, Mr. A received a final positive diagnosis from the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is currently waiting for hospital bed allocation. His condition is stable.

Two family members (spouse and child) living with the confirmed patient are self-quarantining in a separate area within the home.

The district is thoroughly managing the patient and family, deploying an emergency disinfection team from the health center to disinfect the residence and surrounding areas. Additionally, the Dongjak-gu Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters is conducting disinfection throughout the neighborhood to minimize community infection.

The Dongjak-gu Disaster Safety Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters urges residents who experience respiratory symptoms such as fever or cough to consult the screening clinics first before visiting medical institutions (Dongjak-gu Public Health Center 820-9465, Boramae Hospital 870-2114, Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 1339) and to use these services.

Mayor Changwoo Lee of Dongjak-gu stated, “We will promptly and accurately disclose the confirmed patient’s movement path as soon as the epidemiological investigation results from the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are available. We will prioritize residents’ health and safety and make every effort, including emergency quarantine measures, to prevent further spread of infection.”
