[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] A new case of COVID-19 infection has been confirmed at Witz, a Samsung Electro-Mechanics subsidiary and partner company.

According to Suwon City and industry sources on the 25th, a 39-year-old male employee of Witz, a Samsung Electro-Mechanics subsidiary located in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, tested positive for COVID-19 in the first test.

The man resides in Maetan 4-dong, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon City, and is known to have visited Daegu and the Gyeongbuk region from early to mid-February. He reportedly experienced mild sore throat symptoms starting from the early morning of the 17th of this month.

Additionally, he visited the screening clinic at Dongsuwon Hospital around 3 PM on the 24th to have a specimen collected, and tested positive in the first test around 9 AM that day.

The man is currently preparing for a second specimen test and is under self-quarantine. According to Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Witz is located in a separate independent building within the Samsung Electro-Mechanics Suwon plant. Therefore, it was decided to disinfect the entire building and close it for 24 to a maximum of 72 hours.

Suwon City plans to disclose detailed information as soon as the final confirmation based on the second specimen test results and detailed epidemiological investigation results are available.

A Samsung Electro-Mechanics official stated, “So far, building disinfection and closure have been carried out, and the remaining procedures are being followed according to health authorities,” adding, “There are no changes yet regarding production or personnel.”
