[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, stated on the 25th regarding measures against the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), "There is no need to wait for the supplementary budget; it is appropriate to promptly support the 2 trillion won disaster response contingency fund without delay."

Deputy Prime Minister Hong said at a high-level party-government meeting held at the Democratic Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, that "As the number of confirmed cases has recently increased significantly, there is a pattern of community transmission," and "The Daegu and Gyeongbuk Cheongdo areas have been designated as special infectious disease control zones to implement special quarantine and intensive support measures."

He added, "Under the principle that public safety is the top priority, we will ensure timely budget support and thorough implementation of necessary policy measures."

Deputy Prime Minister Hong explained that a comprehensive package support plan will be prepared within this week. He emphasized, "We are preparing measures to actively reinforce the slowdown in consumption and exports of our economy, and plan to announce them after consultations with the party and government."
