[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] Park Gi-ryang, the captain of the Lotte Giants cheerleader team, shed tears.
On the 24th, the Channel A entertainment program 'Eye Contact' aired a scene where Park Gi-ryang, a Lotte Giants cheerleader, made eye contact with her team members.
That day, Park Gi-ryang appeared as an eye contact applicant and said, "(The team members) seem to lack discipline," adding, "I came to improve the system. If you don’t follow my words, we can’t go together," drawing attention.
Park Gi-ryang began making eye contact with the team members sitting opposite her. The team members showed difficulty in maintaining eye contact with Park Gi-ryang.
Then, looking at one team member, Park Gi-ryang asked, "Can you stand at the center tomorrow?" and pointed out, "In the past, cheerleaders were all slim, toned, and had a healthy charm, but now our team lacks that healthy charm."
Afterwards, Park Gi-ryang emphasized, "Practice time is insufficient," and said, "We will add morning practice."
In response, the team members revealed emotions they had not expressed before.
Team member Jo Yoon-kyung confessed, "Unnie’s standards are sky-high," and said, "No matter how hard I try, I can’t reach Unnie’s high standards."
Regarding why they had not shown their struggles to Park Gi-ryang, she explained, "Unnie is always a busy person. All of us team members know that. Do you think we can tell such a person that we’re struggling? Absolutely not," adding, "Because this isn’t something hard for Unnie. So it became more comfortable for us to communicate only among ourselves."
In response, Park Gi-ryang shared her loneliness, saying, "Even when we went to eat after practice, at some point I was left out. I know all the conversations happen just among you," and she shed tears.
She continued, "You are such great juniors, I want to be close with you and stay as one team for a long time, but it’s hard to bring up these topics. It might have been harder for you to speak than for me to say I’m struggling," showing understanding of her team members’ feelings.
The team members cried together as Park Gi-ryang showed her sincerity.
Finally, Park Gi-ryang proposed "adding morning practice, managing body shape, and not getting sick." However, the team members collectively rejected the system reform and left the studio. Park Gi-ryang shed tears, saying, "How can you just leave like that?"
Soon, the team members returned and shouted, "Park Gi-ryang!" They expressed their intention to negotiate, saying, "It might be physically demanding for Unnie too, but we believe she will understand if we coordinate."
