[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Taiwan has raised South Korea's travel alert to level 3, the "Warning" stage, and announced that starting from the 25th, all travelers entering Taiwan from South Korea will be quarantined for 14 days to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), according to a report by Taiwan Central News Agency (CNA) on the 24th.

According to the report, Taiwan's Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced this decision considering the rapid spread of COVID-19 in South Korea. During the quarantine period, individuals are not allowed to leave their residence and must undergo daily health checks by local authorities.

Foreign nationals entering Taiwan from South Korea will be quarantined at their residence for 14 days, and Taiwanese nationals will be subject to quarantine starting from the 27th. Before the 27th, Taiwanese nationals only need to undergo simple quarantine measures.

CECC Director Chen Shih-chung stated, "This measure is taken in consideration of the rapid spread of COVID-19 in South Korea," adding, "We have decided to allow a two-day grace period considering Taiwanese travelers currently staying in South Korea. We hope Taiwanese nationals will hurry their return before the 27th due to this measure."

Along with the traveler quarantine measures, the CECC announced that it has raised the travel alert for South Korea from level 2, "Caution," to the highest level 3, "Warning," in just one day. So far, Taiwan has issued warning-level alerts for four places: South Korea, China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Japan and Singapore are at level 2, the caution stage, while Thailand, Italy, and Iran are at level 1, the watch stage. According to the CECC, travelers entering from countries at levels 1 and 2 are also subject to a 14-day self-health management system immediately upon entry.
