According to Lee’s campaign office on the 24th, the Democratic Party leadership held the inauguration ceremony for the Central Election Committee, which will lead the general election, at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 20th. The committee was named the ‘Republic of Korea Future Preparation Election Committee.’
Party leader Lee Hae-chan and former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon serve as the standing joint election committee chairmen, while 22 others, including Lee Hyung-seok and Lee Gae-ho, serve as joint election committee chairmen, forming a joint election committee system.
Lee, the preliminary candidate, stated, “As the Central Party Joint Election Committee Chairman, I will do my best to ensure that the Democratic Party achieves victory in the upcoming April 15 general election.”
Meanwhile, Lee Hyung-seok is recognized as a key contributor who demonstrated outstanding leadership and a one-team spirit by serving as the Gwangju Standing Election Committee Chairman for President Moon Jae-in’s campaign in the 2017 presidential election and as the Gwangju City Party Chairman in the 2018 local elections, contributing significantly to President Moon’s election and the landslide victory in the June 13 local elections.
