One Confirmed Case Residing in Gangdong-gu... One Case to Be Registered as Homeless On the 22nd, Gangdong-gu Public Health Center conducted disinfection on major roads and Shincheonji facilities.


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) announced that as of 10 a.m. on the 24th, there are 2 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 11 people in self-quarantine, and 0 under active monitoring within Gangdong-gu.


The first confirmed case is a 62-year-old male, known as the second infected person at Eunpyeong Catholic St. Mary's Hospital (hereafter Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital) in Eunpyeong-gu on the 22nd. However, it was confirmed that this man has not actually resided in Gangdong-gu since moving there, and according to the Resident Registration Act, he will be processed as a non-resident through the relevant procedures.


Regarding the first confirmed case: ▲ hospitalized at Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital on February 5 ▲ presumed contact with confirmed case number 161, who worked at Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital (specimen transfer) on February 11 within the medical institution ▲ confirmed positive for COVID-19 on February 22 after detailed testing and is currently isolated and receiving treatment at Seoul National University Hospital.


The district has determined that this man has no history of residing or moving within Gangdong-gu.


The second confirmed case is a 66-year-old male working as a caregiver at Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital. He was confirmed positive at 00:10 on the 24th and has been transferred to Jungdae Hospital in Heukseok-dong, designated as a national isolation bed. The movement path is under epidemiological investigation by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, and the results will be promptly disclosed through the district website once available.


In response to the occurrence of COVID-19 cases in the area, emergency response meetings were held on the 22nd and 24th, presided over by Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon of Gangdong-gu. The COVID-19 crisis response level was raised to 'Severe,' and the Gangdong-gu Public Health Center's disinfection team conducted disinfection activities focusing on major roads and Shincheonji-related facilities within the district.


In particular, an urgent full survey of Shincheonji-related facilities in Gangdong-gu was conducted, and 10 locations identified by the 21st were closed, assembly bans were imposed, and emergency disinfection was carried out.


The operation of the disinfection task force will also be strengthened. The 25th has been designated as 'Disinfection Day,' during which subway stations, bus stops, major multi-use facilities, main streets, and side roads will be disinfected simultaneously, and guidance will be provided to enable voluntary disinfection inside commercial areas and apartment complexes.


The district has conducted disinfection at 819 locations so far and plans to continue disinfection efforts at major hub facilities frequently used by the public, such as religious facilities, in cooperation with voluntary disinfection groups, local organizations, and residents.


Additionally, 184 multi-use facilities with high resident usage, including libraries, welfare centers, senior centers, and sports facilities, have been temporarily closed since the 21st. The list of closed facilities can be found on the Gangdong-gu Office website (https://www.gangdong.go.kr).


The district is promptly disclosing COVID-19 status on the district website and social media to prevent residents' anxiety from escalating, urging religious groups to refrain from gatherings and events, and requesting thorough disinfection and sanitation from organizations related to multi-use facilities such as taxis and buses, making every effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon of Gangdong-gu stated, “As of 10 a.m. on the 24th, there are 2 confirmed cases classified as residents of Gangdong-gu, but based on actual residency, the only case is a 66-year-old male. Currently, our district has established a 24-hour emergency response system centered on the public health center and the disaster safety countermeasures headquarters to actively respond to COVID-19. We will continue to work closely with the local medical community, organizations, and businesses to alleviate residents' anxiety and protect the local community safely.”
