[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Yoseop] Ulsan City is actively promoting the private distribution project for electric vehicles and electric two-wheelers this year as well, to expand the supply of environmentally friendly vehicles.

Ulsan City announced the ‘2020 Private Distribution Project for Electric Vehicles and Electric Two-Wheelers’ on the 24th to provide purchase subsidies for electric vehicles and electric two-wheelers.

According to the announcement, this year, support will be provided for 804 electric vehicles (641 passenger cars, 163 cargo vehicles) and 295 electric two-wheelers. Last year, 625 electric vehicles and 404 electric two-wheelers were supported.

The purchase subsidies provided to promote the distribution of electric vehicles vary by vehicle type based on vehicle performance (fuel efficiency, driving range) and air quality improvement effects. Support ranges from 7 million to 14.2 million KRW for passenger cars, 24 million KRW for small cargo vehicles, and 1.5 million to 3.3 million KRW for two-wheelers.

To apply, the buyer must sign a purchase contract with the vehicle manufacturer or importer, who then applies through the Ministry of Environment’s integrated electric vehicle portal. However, if the vehicle is not delivered within two months, the subsidy will be canceled, so buyers should only apply if the vehicle can be delivered within two months.

Applications for electric vehicles will be accepted starting from the 24th, and for electric two-wheelers from the 2nd of next month.

Eligibility requires applicants to have resided in Ulsan City for at least 180 days as of the application date, or be a corporation or business with a workplace located in Ulsan City.

The number of vehicles supported is limited to one per individual for electric vehicles, with no limit for corporations, while for electric two-wheelers, only one per individual or corporation is allowed.

Especially from this year, more than 20% of the supply will be prioritized for vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, independence activists, basic livelihood security recipients, as well as multi-child families, first-time vehicle buyers, and purchasers of vehicles with high fine dust reduction effects (such as taxis or replacing old diesel vehicles with electric vehicles).

Lee Dohee, Director of the Environmental Conservation Division of Ulsan City, said, “Since this subsidy support project aims to reduce vehicle emissions, greenhouse gases, and fine dust, we hope many citizens and companies will participate in this electric vehicle private distribution project.”
