NEW Launches K-Content Channel 'New Kid' in North America and Beyond


[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jong-gil] Comprehensive entertainment group NEW announced on the 24th that it is targeting overseas markets with a K-content specialized broadcasting channel.


The channel is called ‘NEW K.ID,’ providing K-content 24 hours a day. NEW established its subsidiary ‘NEW ID’ to broadcast various digital content. The content includes music shows, reality shows, and sitcoms produced by sixteen domestic content companies such as MBC Plus, Media Foundation TBS, YG Entertainment, and Kiwi Media Group.


For overseas distribution, NEW recently signed channel supply agreements with global streaming TV platforms ‘Xumo’ and ‘Vewd.’ As a result, the service will be available on smart TVs and mobile devices in 11 countries including the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Xumo is an ad-supported free TV platform offering around 190 premium broadcast channels. Vewd is the largest connected TV platform operator in Europe.


Park Jun-kyung, CEO of NEW ID, said, “Global attention to Korean content has increased,” adding, “Through partnerships with global streaming platforms, we aim to capture the hearts of young viewers and enhance the real value of K-content.”
