[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The Democratic Party of Korea has decided to strategically nominate former KakaoBank CEO Lee Yong-woo for Goyang-jeong in Gyeonggi Province and lawyer Lee So-young for Uiwang-Gwacheon in the April 15 general election.

On the morning of the 24th, Lee Geun-hyung, the Democratic Party's Strategic Planning Committee Chair, announced five strategic candidates approved by the Supreme Council, including these two individuals.

Regarding former CEO Lee, Chair Lee explained, "Candidate Lee served as CEO of KakaoBank and is a financial expert who created a success story in digital finance innovation in the real economy. He was selected as a strategic candidate as he is deemed the right person to drive innovative growth and lead the economic development of Goyang City." Consequently, former CEO Lee will face Kim Hyun-ah of the United Future Party, who has raised the issue of judging the Moon Jae-in administration's real estate policy, in Goyang-jeong.

About lawyer Lee, Chair Lee stated, "She is an expert on fine dust who has served as a specialist for the government and local governments, including the National Climate and Environment Council, making her the right person to create a sustainable and safe future," explaining the background of her nomination. The district where lawyer Lee is running is where incumbent lawmaker Shin Chang-hyun was cut off (excluded from nomination).

Additionally, the party decided to strategically nominate former Vice Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Jun-seok for Nam-gu Gap in Busan, candidate Jung Da-eun for Gyeongju in North Gyeongsang Province, and former Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development Chair Song Jae-ho for Jeju Gap.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party designated Seoul Geumcheon, Chungnam Cheonan-byeong, and Seoul Songpa-gap as additional strategic electoral districts, where incumbent lawmaker Lee Hoon declared he would not run.

Chair Lee said, "In the case of Songpa-gap, even if it is selected as a strategic electoral district, we will comprehensively review which candidate is appropriate, including existing candidates, before finally selecting a strategic candidate."
