Daesang 'Miwon' Releases Newtro-Inspired Recipe Book 'Miwon Sikdang'

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Daesang announced on the 24th that it has partnered with the cooking monthly magazine ‘Ibapcha’ to publish a recipe book titled ‘Miwon Sikdang’ featuring recipes using ‘Miwon.’

While seasoning is the foundation of delicious food, it is also the most challenging process in cooking. Miwon Sikdang contains various cooking secrets that add deep flavor and umami?the core of food?so that anyone can easily and deliciously season their dishes.

Miwon Sikdang is composed of over 60 recipes that add umami with ‘a pinch of Miwon,’ ranging from unique menus that captivate the 2030 generation to nostalgic dishes that evoke memories for the Opal generation (referring to economically stable people in their 50s and 60s). The aluminum lunchbox that brings back school memories features shrimp oil pasta, and the pink sausage, once popular as a lunchbox side dish, is transformed into a crispy snack perfect for drinking. Additionally, special dishes appealing to younger tastes such as egg soy sauce avocado bibimbap, myeongran mac and cheese, parmesan cheese oil tteokbokki, soybean paste cream tofu noodles, and tomato bingsu are gathered in one place.

The book organizes a variety of cooking methods that harmonize with Miwon, including Korean, Chinese, bunsik (Korean snack foods), Western, diet dishes, and desserts, making it easy to understand by category. It also includes useful cooking information. A simple measuring method using a rice spoon without separate measuring tools is introduced so that even those inexperienced in cooking can easily follow along. Various episodes surrounding Miwon’s 60-year history are also revealed, providing a unique enjoyment.

In particular, not only do the recipes stimulate retro sensibilities, but the retro design also makes it perfect for use as an interior accessory. Its minimal size makes it easy to keep on a desk or in the kitchen and take out whenever needed.

A Daesang official said, “We published this recipe book reflecting the newtro trend to inform all generations about the various uses of Miwon, which has protected Korean dining tables for the past 64 years,” adding, “We hope ‘Miwon Sikdang’ will gift someone with nostalgic memories and offer fresh enjoyment to others.”
