On the 21st, over 100 Mapo-gu employees voluntarily participated in blood donation at Mapo-gu Office Plaza to help alleviate blood shortages caused by COVID-19, joining the '10-minute' miracle of sharing...
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) announced that on the 21st, it operated the ‘Mapo-gu Love 愛 Blood Donation’ through blood donation vehicles at the main gate square of Mapo-gu Office.
Recently, due to concerns about infection amid the spread of COVID-19, individual and group blood donations have sharply decreased, causing disruptions in domestic blood supply to the extent that the Korean Red Cross issued an appeal for blood donation participation.
In response, worried about the emergency situation caused by blood supply disruptions, Mapo-gu actively engaged in encouraging blood donation in cooperation with the Korean Red Cross.
The ‘Love 愛 Blood Donation,’ conducted with two blood donation buses, continued from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day.
Since this blood donation took place during a period sensitive to infections, thorough disinfection of the vehicle interiors and blood collection equipment was carried out. Personal hygiene management of both the staff in charge of blood collection and the employees participating in the blood donation was strictly enforced, including mandatory temperature checks and mask-wearing.
One employee who participated in the blood donation said, “I stopped by the blood donation bus because I thought it was a valuable participation that could help many people by taking a short amount of time.”
More than 100 Mapo-gu public officials voluntarily participated in the ‘Love 愛 Blood Donation’ that day, joining in the practice of sharing.
Yudonggyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Blood donation is a noble act that saves lives, and I am grateful to the employees for actively participating and contributing even a little to alleviating the blood shortage. Although everyone is going through difficult times, I believe that if neighbors share love like today and residents and public officials unite in their respective places, we will soon overcome the COVID-19 outbreak.”
