Two Areas: Business Discovery and Execution... Support of 2 to 5 Million KRW per Case... Haebangchon Urban Regeneration Support Center Conducts Public Project Consulting
‘Haebangchon Sinheung Market’, selected as an excellent case in last year's urban regeneration contest. The market was operated focusing on workshops, which are the economic foundation within Haebangchon, receiving favorable reviews from residents.
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seongjanghyun) is implementing the ‘2020 Haebangchon Urban Regeneration Resident Contest Project’ to enhance residents' understanding and participation in urban regeneration and to revitalize the local community.
The contest fields are divided into two categories: project discovery and project execution.
The project discovery category supports idea generation and education/consulting for solving local issues. The support goal is 2 projects, with funding up to 2 million KRW per project.
The project execution category supports implementation projects by task and fosters enterprises and organizations. The support goal is 6 projects, with funding up to 5 million KRW per project.
For the project discovery category, at least three residents based in the project area (business owners, workers, residents) must apply together. For the execution category, resident organizations currently conducting projects by task are eligible to apply. The self-funding rate for the project cost is at least 10% of the subsidy.
Applicants who have received or are scheduled to receive subsidies from Seoul City or Yongsan-gu for similar projects during the same period are excluded from eligibility.
Those wishing to participate should visit the Haebangchon Urban Regeneration Support Center (32 Sinheung-ro 3ga-gil, Yongsan-gu) by April 3rd (6 PM) to submit resident organization (group) introduction letters and project plans. Email submissions (kmire11@yongsan.go.kr) are also accepted.
The district also provides consulting for the contest projects. Those who have questions about the contest or need help writing proposals can visit the Haebangchon Urban Regeneration Support Center.
Afterward, the district will finalize the support recipients in May through interviews, final selection committees, and subsidy review committees held in April. The full-scale projects will run from May to November.
To widely promote the Haebangchon urban regeneration projects, a monthly ‘Haebangchon Newsletter’ will be produced. It will include announcements, project progress, schedules, and residents’ opinions, with 1,000 copies produced and distributed monthly for 10 months starting in March.
Last year, eight projects such as ▲VR Content Sinheung Market Map Tour ▲Haebangchon Sinheung Market ▲Peace Playground ▲Haebangchon Ecological Vlog ▲Village Garden Cultivation were realized through the Haebangchon Urban Regeneration Resident Contest.
Seongjanghyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “Haebangchon urban regeneration is based on residents’ empathy, participation, communication, and trust. Since this year marks the completion of the past five years of urban regeneration, we hope for active participation from those interested.”
Public-led Haebangchon urban regeneration will conclude this year. After the urban regeneration project is completed in 2020, resident-led projects centered on Community Regeneration Corporations (CRC), like the cases in Changsin and Sungin, are expected to be actively carried out.
In addition, the district is also focusing on the ‘Y-Valley Urban Regeneration Resident Contest Project’ in the Yongsan Electronics Market area. Support ranges from 3 million to 30 million KRW per case in general, planning, and facility improvement categories.
Applications will be accepted from March 9th to 16th. Guidance is available at the Y-Valley Urban Regeneration Field Support Center. (☎2199-6188)
