[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] City Construction has secured three road construction projects worth a total of 75.47 million USD (approximately 89.2 billion KRW) in Ghana, Africa.
According to industry sources on the 23rd, the three road construction projects City Construction won in Ghana are located in the northern Tamale region: ▲ Nalerigu-Bunkprugu ▲ Wulugu-Wiase roads, and one project in the Volta region: ▲ Jasikan-Worawora road.
These road projects are commissioned by the Ministry of Road and Highway of Ghana and overseen by the Ghana Highway Authority, funded by the Ghana government.
The Nalerigu-Bunkprugu road project covers a total length of 68 km, with a construction period of approximately 36 months from the start date, and a budget of 40.74 million USD (48.2 billion KRW). The Wulugu-Wiase road project involves maintenance of a 35 km section over three years, with a construction cost of about 27.1 million USD (32.1 billion KRW). The Jasikan-Worawora road project in the Volta region spans 17.6 km, with a construction period of about 1 year and 6 months, costing 7.57 million USD (8.9 billion KRW). The plan is to reconstruct unpaved roads and improve the traffic environment significantly through works such as drainage installation.
Tamale, where these road projects are underway, is a central city in northern Ghana with a population of about 500,000 and hosts an international airport, where there have been ongoing calls for improvements in the transportation environment. Upon completion of these projects, the convenience of transportation for residents in the Tamale area is expected to increase significantly.
Previously, City Construction first entered Ghana in 2009 and completed three road projects: Kumasi urban road and IC, Techiman-Kintampo road (60 km), and Worawora-Dambai road (70 km). In 2016, the company secured the Dambai-Quanta road (50 km) project, which is currently underway. Additionally, City Construction is expanding its overseas business by winning the ‘Maubin-Pyapon connecting road project’ in Myanmar, Southeast Asia, covering a 25 km section.
Jung Woncheol, CEO of City Construction, said, “It has already been over 10 years since City Construction started its overseas business in Ghana. Based on our experience so far, we will continue to make efforts to expand and develop transportation infrastructure in Ghana and other African countries.”
