[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 23rd that on the 21st, it signed an "Agreement on Sharing, Analyzing, and Utilizing Aviation Safety Data to Enhance Aviation Safety" with related industries such as airlines and airport corporations at the Marriott Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul.


In addition to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the agreement included participation from the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board, Incheon International Airport Corporation, Korea Airports Corporation, Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Jeju Air, Jin Air, Air Busan, Eastar Jet, T'way Air, Air Seoul, Air Incheon, and Fly Gangwon.


The main purpose of this agreement is to collect and analyze various safety data from the aviation field to implement scientific and highly effective safety management.


The agreement includes cooperation matters between the Ministry, airport corporations, and airlines, the scope of data to be shared, methods for data analysis and utilization, and the operation of a consultative body for safety enhancement between the government and the aviation industry.


The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport also established a legal basis for information protection under the Aviation Safety Act to resolve issues such as the exposure of personal information of workers that may arise from data provision.


Additionally, the ministry plans to build an "Aviation Safety Big Data Analysis System" utilizing the safety data shared by the industry by 2023.


Kim Sangdo, Director of the Aviation Policy Office at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, explained, "Through this agreement, a cooperative relationship for aviation safety between the government and airlines has been established," and added, "It is expected that the level of aviation safety in our country will be further improved."
