According to Bloomberg News, on the 22nd (local time), a woman residing in Lombardy in northern Italy died from COVID-19 infection. The day before, a 78-year-old man near Padova in the northeastern Veneto region died from COVID-19. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
The cumulative confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection in Italy have reached 51, with 39 cases in Lombardy and 12 cases in Veneto. Hundreds of people who had contact with these patients have also been quarantined. As deaths occurred and infections increased, about ten towns in northern Italy issued closure orders for schools and restaurants as measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, 19 Italians who had been quarantined for more than two weeks on the cruise ship "Diamond Princess," docked and quarantined at Yokohama Port in Japan, arrived at Pratica di Mare military airport in Rome on the same day. After undergoing health checks, they were transferred to the Ceccignola military facility, where they are scheduled to be quarantined for 14 days.
